PROTEST SEEKING RECOGNITION TO KSOU COURSES

PROTEST SEEKING KSOU RECOGNISED COURSES

" PROTEST SEEKING RECOGNITION TO KSOU COURSES "

Members of Save Karnataka State Open University Movement Committee will stage a protest on October 14, urging University Grants Commission (UGC) to recognize the courses offered by the open university.

Committee convener Pramodh Chikkamannur told to reporters here on Saturday that they will stage the protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office. During the protest, which he said will be supported by different progressive organizations, they will demand early renewal/ approval from UGC "as the future of thousands of students is at stake".

Besides claiming that some KSOU officials are indulging in corruption, Pramodh charged that state government with not taking swift action for procuring the approval. "The governor had formed a committee under Bhakthavastalam to probe into the matter. Investigation into the charges is important, and so is early decision on renewing the approval. The future of thousands of students, who are pursuing courses in KSOU, is at stake," he said, adding that the university has lost its recognition since 2012. Students who have enrolled after 2012 have been prevented from taking public service exams and appointments, he said.

Pramodh also alleged that newly constructed buildings of KSOU have been constructed violating tender norms.
