JEE (Advanced) - Joint Entrance Examination

The admission to the undergraduate programmes at the IITs and ISMU, Dhanbad is based on a two-tier test. The first test, JEEMain, is conducted by CBSE in April.
The second test, called the JEE (Advanced), is conducted in May (only offline). 2 lakh candidates of the top rankers in JEE (Main), which includes students from all categories (GE, OBC-NCL, SC and ST) are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced).

Admissions to IITs is based only on category wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced) subject to the condition that such candidates get more than 75% in their XII board exam or are in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates of their Boards in applicable categories.
JEE Advanced Exam Pattern
The JEE (Advanced) has two objective type papers. Each paper consists of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Duration of each paper is 3 hours. Question papers are in both English and Hindi. 

Procedure of Choice Filling & Seat Allocation

If you qualify JEE (Advanced) and get shortlisted for online choice-filling for various undergraduate courses in IITs and  ISM Dhanbad, you have to register on the online choice-filling portal, fill up choices of UG programmes available, make payment online and then accept the seat allotted by uploading relevant documents.

JOCSAP

All the processes are carried out online through the Joint Online Choice-filling and Seat Allocation Portal (JOCSAP). For 2014, it will be operative from 20 June, 2014 till the end of the allocation processes.
Course choice filling is open till 5 PM on 24 June, 2014. Beyond this deadline, no fresh choice-filling or modification is permitted. You can fill in as many numbers of choices as you like in the order of your preference from the list of available courses with specified intake capacity.
You are also permitted to change or re-order your choices, delete earlier choices and add new choices any number of times until you lock your final choices.

Three Rounds of Course Allocation

There are three rounds of course allocation in JEE (Advanced) 2014.
The first round of course allotment will be declared on the JOCSAP by 1 July, 2014, the second round of course allotment by 8 July, 2014, and the third round of course allotment by 12 July, 2014.
At the end of every round, you should visit the JOCSAP site to know about the course allotted to you. This allotment may change in the subsequent rounds to a choice better than the one allotted in the earlier round depending on the number of candidates declining the seats offered to them in the earlier round.

Partial Admission Fees

All candidates belonging to GE and OBC categories will have to pay an amount of Rs.60,000 and all SC, ST and PwD candidates will have to pay an amount of Rs.20,000 as partial admission fee apart from uploading the documents in support of eligibility. 

Eligibility For JEE Advanced

Education

You should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) exam for the first time in all the subjects in either 2015 or 2016. But, if your Class XII (or equivalent) examination Board results for the academic year 2013-14 were declared after June 2014, then you are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2016.
Performance in Class XII
You should be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in your respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination. OR you should secured 75% (for GEN or OBC-NCL) or 70% (SC, ST or PwD) of aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination.

Age

You should have been born on or after October 1, 1991 if belonging to the GEN or OBC-NCL category and on or after October 1, 1986 if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.

Number of Attempts

You can attempt JEE (Advanced) two times and that too in consecutive years. It should be your either first attempt or second consecutive attempt.

Previous Admission in IITs or ISM

You should not have been admitted or even accepted the seat by paying seat acceptance fee at any of the IITs or ISM in the past.
